Steve Coogan, Neve Campbell, Taylor Russell to Star in ‘Hot Air’ (Exclusive)
Frank Coraci is directing the indie about a conservative talk radio host whose life is changed by the arrival of his 16-year-old niece.
Steve Coogan, Neve Campbell and Taylor Russell will star in Frank Coraci’s indie film Hot Air.
The project, which will start shooting in New York on July 24, follows a conservative talk radio host who finds his world turned upside down when his 16-year-old niece comes crashing into his life. What follows is a relationship that will change both their lives.
Aimee Keen, Coraci and Susan Leber are producing the project. Robert Halmi, Jim Reeve, Coogan, Will Reichel, Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will serve as executive producers on the film. Great Point Media is fully financing the film, and representing the film internationally. ICM Partners and CAA are co-representing the domestic rights.
“I am so excited to reteam with Steve Coogan to make a film that comments on the state of our media through such an emotionally riveting story. I can’t wait to bring Will Reichel’s compelling script to life with this incredible cast,” said Coraci.
Coogan and Coraci previously worked together on the 2004 film Around the World in 80 Days. Coogan will next be seen in the romantic drama Irreplaceable You with Christopher Walken and Michiel Huisman and Stan and Ollie opposite John C. Reilly. His recent credits include Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply and voice work in Despicable Me 3, which is currently in theaters. Coogan is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group in the U.K.
Campbell can be seen as a series regular on Netflix’s House of Cards and will soon be seen with Dwayne Johnson in Legendary’s 3D action thriller Skyscraper for director Rawson Marshall Thurber. She is repped by CAA, Mosaic and attorney Jeff Bernstein.
Russell, who is currently shooting Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series Lost in Space, is repped by UTA, Thruline Entertainment, PLAY and Lichter Grossman.
Coraci’s notable credits include Netflix’s The Ridiculous 6, Warner Bros.’ Blended, Columbia Pictures’ Click and New Line’s The Wedding Singer. Coraci is repped by ICM Partners, MGMT Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
Neve Campbell Joins Dwayne Johnson In ‘Skyscraper’
EXCLUSIVE: Neve Campbell has signed on to star opposite Dwayne Johnson in Skyscraper, Legendary’s 3D action thriller written and to be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Universal already has staked out a July 13, 2018, release date. Production starts in August.
Johnson stars as a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and war veteran who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, he must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who are trapped inside the building above the fire line.
The movie reteams Thurber and Johnson, whose New Line comedy Central Intelligence with Kevin Hart grossed $217 million globally last summer.
Producers are Beau Flynn via his FlynnPictureCo, Johnson via his Seven Bucks Productions and Thurber. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are executive producing, and Wendy Jacobson is co-producing.

Neve Campbell on Her Early Fame, ‘House of Cards,’ & Why She Enjoys Getting Older
This spring, ’90s TV darling-turned-movie star Neve Campbell chews up the not-so-small screen again in America’sother political thriller.
Sometimes, when a celebrity has lived in the eye of an all-encompassing pop-cultural whirlwind, there’s later a moment that they wish they could re-experience, if only to be more centered and present. Just ask Neve Campbell.
“Hosting Saturday Night Live with David Bowie—like, really understanding what that meant,” Campbell offers as her rewind moment, a 1997 episode at the height of the then-23-year-old’s Scream fame in which she wishes she’d been able to better focus on the immediate cool factor. “I was terrified! I wish I could have had more fun with it… To be able to walk out on a stage and say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, David Bowie,’ was pretty incredible!”
It was the mid-to-late-’90s, the era of Peak Neve, in which the actress had gone from starring in her breakout role as Julia Salinger on the beloved TV series Party of Five to full-fledged movie stardom in a succession of youth-appealing box-office hits that included The Craft, Scream, and Wild Things. And Campbell, who continues her return to TV screens this summer by reprising her role as Leann Harvey on Netflix’s perhaps too politically prescient streaming series House of Cards, can be excused for admitting it was all a bit of a blur.
“I don’t think I even knew what was happening,” Campbell, now 43, chuckles. “It was overwhelming and it was wonderful and I was certainly grateful for the work, but I was also working so hard.” That workload included more than 10 months a year shooting 16-hour days on Party of Five. “And then, because I wanted to guarantee that I would have a career after the show,” she recalls, “I felt I needed to do films on the hiatus. It was exhausting.”
Her youth helped her endure the punishing schedule, as well as avoid fully grasping her headlong, hyper-speed transformation into a full-blown pop icon subject to a seemingly non-stop sequence of photo shoots, interviews, and promotional ops. “I remember being in a car with my manager and my publicist, and my publicist was very excited to tell me something: ‘Okay, you got the cover of Rolling Stone!’ And I remember first of all being upset that I had to do another photo shoot, and secondly that I didn’t know what Rolling Stone was. I was just naive.”
Neve attended IFP’s 26th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards at Cipriani, Wall Street in New York City (November 28).
